Coding got easy.
Software didn't.

For twenty years I've built software used by teams inside Netflix, TED, and Google, and deployed in Fortune 500 insurers.

AI has made coding cheaper than ever, but software that succeeds still requires making the right surrounding decisions. That's what I'm good at, and honestly I'm having more fun with it now than ever before.

Selected outcomes

Recent work, highlighted in numbers. The longer history is further down.

AI-assisted development

Increase in output after moving an engineering team to AI-powered development, with no rise in incidents.

Platform architecture

150M+

Client records on a data platform where every customer defines its own schemas and formulas, resolved at query time, under 50 ms at p95.

AI agent delivery

$78/mo

AI costs for a custom agent that took over reconciliation work which had occupied three full-time people.

Background

I've done this as an engineer, a team lead, and for eight years as CTO. I led the technical side of three enterprise SaaS products that held 500 million records and sent more than six million emails a month. Later I inherited a product with serious performance and reliability problems, helped make it fast and stable enough to grow, and stayed through a $20 million Series A. After that I built the data platform, workflow engine, and agent layer the product still needed.

The last two years have been AI on both sides: intelligence in the product, and AI-assisted engineering on the team that ships it, including taking an AI-written SaaS platform from production-risky to launched.

Across that span the work is architecture, production and security, AI systems, and leading the people doing it. Explore the work in detail on the timeline below. Further down, see what people say about working with me.

  • AI Systems

Agent architecture and orchestration, AI-native engineering practice, automated code and security review

  • Platform Architecture

Data platforms, workflow engines, and user-configurable business systems

  • Production & Security

Security, infrastructure, and reliability at scale

  • Technical Leadership

Team leadership, technical direction, and explaining the tradeoffs so non-engineers can decide
